Club members and visitors have reported that the 1949 is accepted in practice. It has also been reported that the Vietnamese authorities require the list of contracting parties to be printed on the IDP and to include Vietnam.

!! Please note that validity restrictions apply to IDPs in these countries- they are accepted for a limited period of time. Only (30 days, 90 days, 180 days, or as specified) even if the IDP is valid for longer. Validity restrictions also apply in Bahrain, Brunei, Gambia, Kiribati, Lesotho, Macao, Nepal, and Samoa.

Vienna Convention Format

Valid in almost all countries that are signatories to the 1949 and 1968 United Nations Convention on Road Traffic.

Geneva Convention Format

AAP issues this IDP format specifically for Japan use only.

Japan doesn’t allow continuous use of IDP for more than a year. When renewing an IDP to be used in Japan, the AAP member must be out of Japan for at least 3 months to be allowed to use a renewed license.
